The Great Hopewell Road: Ohio’s Ancient Superhighway
Saturday, May 4 │ 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.
Main Library – Auditorium
Ohio History Connection’s Curator of Archaeology, Dr. Brad Lepper, joins us to explore the Great Hopewell Road.
A set of parallel earthen walls were built by Native American Hopewell people who lived in Ohio circa 1-400 AD. The road’s ultimate destination is a mystery, but it may have been a route of pilgrimage that connected the two grandest centers of the Hopewell world: the Newark Earthworks and the Hopewell Mounds near Chillicothe - more than 60 miles away.
Sponsored by Ohio Humanities.
