ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Alexis Nikole Nelson, best known as Black Forager, is a social media creator, vegan, urban forager, and outdoor educator with millions of followers. She began foraging at age five, learning from her mother, and has since built a devoted audience through her playful, informative videos that highlight edible plants, sustainable practices, and the cultural history of foraging. Alexis has been featured in a broad range of media from The New York Times to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and she was named a Time100 Creator in 2025. She lives in Columbus, Ohio. Follow her on TikTok, X, Instagram, and YouTube @BlackForager.
ABOUT THE BOOK
HAPPY SNACKING, DON’T DIE! is a one-of-a-kind guide that is equal parts foraging handbook and vegan cookbook, inviting readers to explore the natural world through flavor, curiosity, and care. Alexis shares invaluable plant identification guidance, practical safety tips, and delicious recipes: from pickled magnolia flowers and Japanese knotweed granita in spring, to milkweed bud fritters and Juneberry hand pies in summer, to savory maitake “steaks” and cozy oyster mushroom chowdah in the colder months. With her signature humor, warmth, and scientific curiosity, she shows that foraging isn’t just for survivalists—it’s for anyone who wants to expand their palate, engage more deeply with their environment, and bring new life to their cooking.
