In 2018, police finally arrested Joseph James DeAngelo, the man more commonly known as the Golden State Killer, who was responsible for a string of homicides in the 70s and 80s. Police found Joseph James DeAngelo by using a new DNA method called Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy, which at its most basic parts, is building family trees from a DNA sample to identify the owner of the DNA.
