ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Gracie Gold made her mark on the senior skating scene in 2013 when she made her senior debut at the U.S. Championships. There, she rallied from a ninth-place finish in the short program to win the silver medal. The victory earned her a spot on the 2013 World Team and put her into the mix as one of the top U.S. contenders for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Gracie went on to win gold at the 2014 U.S. Championships in Boston. She set three personal-best scores (short, free skate and overall) at the 2014 U.S. Championships and secured her place on the 2014 Olympic Team by winning her first national title.
At the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, Gracie along with other members of Team USA won the Olympic Bronze medal in the first-ever Team event. In the individual ladies competition, Gracie placed fourth.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Outofshapeworthlessloser is an explosive tell-all memoir where Olympic figure skater Gracie Gold reveals her battle to survive mental illness, eating disorders, and the self-destructive voice inside.
When Gracie Gold stepped onto center stage (or ice, rather) as America’s sweetheart at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, she instantly became the face of America’s most beloved winter sport.
But little did the public know what Gold was facing when the cameras were off. In 2017, she entered treatment for what was publicly announced as an eating disorder and anxiety treatment but was, in reality, suicidal ideation. While Gold’s public star was rising, her private life was falling apart: Cracks within her family were widening, her bulimia was getting worse, and she became a survivor of sexual assault. The pressure of training for years with demanding coaches and growing up in a household that accepted nothing less than gold had finally taken its toll.
Now Gold reveals the exclusive and harrowing story of her struggles in and out of the pressure-packed world of elite figure skating: the battles with her family, her coaches, the powers-that-be at her federation, and her deteriorating mental health.
This book is recommended for ages 16 and up.
