ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tara Pringle Jefferson is author of Bloom How You Must: A Black Woman’s Guide to Self-Care and Generational Healing (Amistad/HarperCollins). A certified breathwork facilitator and wellness advocate, Jefferson is founder of The Self Care Suite, a digital wellness community for Black women. Over the last decade, Jefferson has brought her wellness expertise to corporate audiences including WW, SiriusXM, Wayfair, and Priceline. Her voice has been featured on New York magazine’s The Cut, Black Enterprise, and Essence. When she’s not writing, she finds peace among her houseplants and flowers. A Cleveland native, she lives in northeast Ohio with her husband and two children.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Bloom How You Must: A Black Woman’s Guide to Self-Care and Generational Healing explores seven distinct pillars of wellness — physical, social, professional, spiritual, mental, emotional and creative — to encourage readers to think deeply about the origins of their wellness practices and how their past shapes the present.

Self-care isn’t a trend among Black women; it has always been a constant in our heritage. From Coretta Scott King, Betty Shabazz, and Myrlie Evers-Williams taking intentional pauses amid the Civil Rights Movement, to Rosa Parks practicing yoga, to Toni Morrison tending her gardens while writing literary classics, Bloom How You Must situates rest, joy, and community as acts of resilience and survival.

An intentional mix of deep research, personal stories and interviews with more than 100 Black women ages 19-99, this book is an instruction manual to claim and shape new generational legacies around healing, wellness and self-care.
